Journeying Through Chronic Illness To Healing and Wellness: Update 3

In the early days of my illness, personal blogging wasn't popular and Facebook and Twitter didn't even exist! Hard to imagine now, I know. I've often wondered what it would have been like to have had those outlets back then? Perhaps it was for the best that we didn't. Those were some rough times and I might have scared everyone off :)

Nevertheless, here we are many years later and I am now able to share such things with you through this blog and social networking sites; just as you are able to share with me.

Thanks to all of you for following along as I continue my journey through this chronic illness en route to healing and wellness. It's both exhausting and exciting! I want you to know I truly appreciate your prayers and support. So many of you - family, friends and even strangers who are now new friends - have left loving and encouraging comments on my blog, FB and Twitter. Some of you have sent emails. Some have sent cards. I want you to know that it all means something to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I'm now in the sixth month of my natural treatment protocol and some changes are starting to take place. Many days are extremely difficult; some days are easier. But perseverance is the key. Perseverance in this protocol; perseverance in making healthy choices; perseverance in running the race set before me.

We are specifically targeting Borrelia burgdorferi; one of the strains of bacteria that causes Lyme Disease, and the multiple co-infections that accompany it. This is what makes Chronic Lyme Disease so complexed and complicated to deal with. The process of not only dealing with all of the long standing infections but also with the damage and dysfunction they have created in the body; in my body. It's like peeling an onion. We peel back and deal with one layer only to find several more revealed beneath it. And so it goes. It can be overwhelming and tedious work.

But we are on the right track. Since my last health update in January, I have had three truly pretty good days that I've not had in a very long time. Now I know three pretty good days might not sound like something spectacular to a lot of people but for me; it was a big deal! I believe it not only reconfirms the fact that I do have Lyme Disease and this treatment is the right treatment but it also speaks of better days yet to come.

In the meantime, I'd like to specifically ask that you pray for my endurance. I am not feeling well at all and am experiencing some very uncomfortable symptoms that are a result of our pursuing the Borrelia spirochetes and other bacteria and viruses. In other words, the treatment protocol is working. Change often comes about through chaos and crisis and so it is with the process of healing.

As I end this update, I want to share something that I realized a few months ago and think is quite amazing ~ the Lord performed His Word on my behalf! What do I mean by that? I mean He has revealed the true root of my chronic illness after being misdiagnosed all these years. The Bible says He will do such things.

"He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with Him" (Daniel 2:22 NIV).

"For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open" (Mark 4:22 NIV).

If God will disclose the truth of what has been making my body so ill for so long, then He's true to His Word. And If He's true to His Word, then my healing is coming; just as He told me it will. He has performed His word before and He'll do it again. I can't wait to blog about that!

I hope this can be an encouragement to someone else who might also be seeking and searching for answers. Or for one who might be barely holding on; just waiting for something to change. Don't ever give up. If you earnestly seek God, He'll do what only He can. The road is often long and hard, but I can attest to you that He is trustworthy and He is faithful.

He's the One whose kept me through all of this.

My iPod Is Speaking: Lesson From a Download Gone Bad

I was recently trying to download an updated version of an App I use on my iPod Touch. Usually, there's nothing out of the ordinary about the process but this download was different. Instead of taking the typical seconds to download; nothing happened. At all. My App just said, "Waiting."

I figured it couldn't make the wireless connection with iTunes and would surely download before the day was over with. I was wrong. There it was, the next morning, still stuck on the message "Waiting." And then it occurred to me: the Christian life is a lot like this.

Apps and digital music are easily and quickly downloaded; mere seconds to only a few minutes at most. And this surely feeds into the theme (or should I say the mire) of our culture today. Can anybody say instant access?!

But a true life surrendered to Christ isn't like that. We might want an "instant download" from God but oftentimes; we must simply wait on Him. This usually isn't fun for us because we want what we want when we want it. Did you catch that?

I eventually had to remove the App from my iTunes library and re-download it altogether. No problems since. Makes me wish life were this simple to deal with. But our lives are much more precious and complex than downloading digitally compressed data.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us, "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven." So that means there is a time for waiting; for silence.

And even more specific, Isaiah 40:31 says, "But those who wait on the LORD will renew their strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint." This passage implies there is a benefit attached to waiting. Hmmm.

If you're pursuing the Lord about something and seem to get no response except "Waiting," then do that; just wait on Him. He'll speak or move at the right moment. He makes no mistakes. It will come in His perfect timing. And with God, it's always worth the wait. "He has made everything beautiful in its time" (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Who knew an App download could hold such a valuable lesson?
