My Life In Song

I was born in a Small Town (John Mellencamp); that’s where it all started for me. My Momma took one look at my little face and said Oh, Sweet Child O’ Mine (Guns and Roses)!

A few years later, when my brother was born, I couldn't wait to hold him. Everyone was worried I couldn't handle him, but when they placed him in my arms, I said, He Ain't Heavy...He’s My Brother (The Hollies).

I grew up Lookin’ Out My Back Door (CCR), and all I saw were Fields of Gold (Sting) filled with a Sea of Faces (Kutless). It was quite a Phenomenon (tobyMac) to behold, but That Was Yesterday (Foreigner).

The Long and Winding Road (The Beatles) led me onward. I had a Total Eclipse of the Heart (Bonnie Tyler) until I heard Jesus Calling (33 Miles). He said, Let My Love Open the Door (Pete Townshend) to your heart. And so I did; best decision I ever made.

During my teenage years, I just wanted to hang out with my friends and Let the Music Play (Shannon). After all, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Cyndi Lauper).

Then I spotted a Sharp Dressed Man (ZZ-Top). He walked up to me and said, Let’s Dance (David Bowie). But my Dad stepped in and said, why don’t you Keep Your Hands to Yourself (The Georgia Satellites) and just Beat It (Michael Jackson).

Life has had its ups and downs, and I've sure heard my share of Jive Talkin' (Bee Gees), but this one thing I do know; in a World So Cold (12 Stones) you've got to have Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics) to hold onto, my friends. And let me tell you, Runnin’ Down a Dream (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers) is some serious work. I mean, you gotta Rock Steady (Aretha Franklin) when there’s a lot on the line.

All I Can Say (David Crowder Band) is I'm a Jesus Freak (dc Talk), and I'm Forgiven (Sanctus Real). So I got to Testify to Love (Wynonna) and keep on dealin' with Kingdom Business (Canton Jones). By the way, God Loves You (Jaci Velasquez)!

Living with a chronic illness is difficult, and some days, all I want is some Tea and Sympathy (Jars of Clay), but I’m Still Here (Superchick), and I Will Survive (Gloria Gaynor). And while I don’t understand everything, I do know There Is A Reason (Allison Krauss and Union Station) for it all. Cause Me and Jesus (Stellar Kart) are tight, and I can feel Him All Around Me (Flyleaf).

I’ve really come to see that extreme circumstances call for Extreme Ways (Moby). So you got to keep those Good Vibrations (Beach Boys) and Don’t Stop Believin’ (Journey).

The truth is, I Believe I Can Fly (R. Kelly) And I’m telling you it’s More Than a Feeling (Boston); it’s A Matter of Trust (Billy Joel).

So while I’m waiting on a Miracle (Luminate), I’ll keep my Burning Heart (Survivor) focused on Christ and know I’m Never Alone (BarlowGirl). And even though these are Crazy Times (Jars of Clay), I’ll Hold On Tight (ELO) and Never Surrender (Skillet).

I guess my life really be like Ooh Aah (Grits) if you know what I mean.

I Apologize (OneRepublic) for cutting this short, but I've got to Walk On (U2) and let This Little Light Of Mine (The Lower Lights) shine.

Thanks for reading my Beautiful History (Plumb).

  1. Seriously, this is amazing. It reminds me a little of Tamara Lowe only a whole lot better.

Shine on, my friend! The world is so much brighter because of Christ in you!
